Secure Configuration Distribution with Aladdin eToken

 
The Cisco integrated services routers are the first routers in the industry with USB ports. The Cisco IOS® Software-level integration of Aladdin eToken drivers provides partners and customers with simple, convenient, and secure provisioning of router configurations.
Aladdin eToken is a USB-based smartcard device used for strong user authentication and secured storage. Combining eToken drivers with Cisco integrated services routers helps Cisco partners mount router configuration on eToken drivers and securely send them to end customers. End customers will then upload the configuration directly to the router by attaching an eToken to the new USB port.
 

About this Demo - Secure Configuration Distribution

This demo shows how a Cisco reseller or customer can load a router configuration onboard an eToken.
In reality (not the scope of this demo) the Cisco reseller or customer will generate a router configuration using VMS. Once this configuration is created, it is sent to the eToken Management System (see below) to upload the configuration onboard the eToken. Since router configuration is both specific and dynamic, this demo concentrates on the last mile – giving a specific configuration, loading it onboard the eToken and booting the router.
The demo follows these steps:
 
  1. Login to TMS web (using username and password provided during the registration process)
  2. TMS web will open a browser window to select a router configuration (on your local disk)
  3. Router configuration is uploaded to TMS web
  4. User plugs in the eToken and enters the eToken password when required
  5. TMS writes the configuration to the eToken
  6. User plugs the eToken into the router – router boots and goes live

Token Management System

 
The Aladdin eToken TMS™ is a robust management system that enables the deployment, provisioning and maintenance of security Tokens, Smartcards and ID Badges within an organization. It supports a comprehensive range of security applications such as Network Logon, VPN, Web Access, Secure eMail, Data Encryption and many others.
To provision Cisco routers, TMS imports a VMS generated configuration file. TMS can associate the configuration to a customer-specific eToken and, upload the configuration to the token. The eToken is then sent to the customer for fast and secure configuration upload.
